Chris Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota. He grew up in Lake Stevens, Washington, where he was a wrestler and a football player in high school. He dropped out of college after one semester and worked as a waiter and a coupon salesman. He was discovered by actress and director Rae Dawn Chong, who cast him in her short film Cursed Part 3 in 2000. He then moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

His first major role was as Bright Abbott on the WB drama series Everwood, which ran from 2002 to 2006. He then joined the cast of The O.C. as Che Cook, a hippie activist and friend of Summer Roberts. In 2009, he landed the role of Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, a comedy series created by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur. Andy was originally meant to be a guest character, but Pratt impressed the producers so much that they made him a regular. His hilarious and heartfelt performance as Andy earned him critical acclaim and a loyal fan base.

While working on Parks and Recreation, Pratt also appeared in several films, such as Wanted, Bride Wars, Jennifer's Body, Moneyball, and The Five-Year Engagement. His breakthrough came in 2014, when he starred as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, a sci-fi adventure film based on the Marvel comic book series. Pratt underwent a physical transformation for the role, losing 60 pounds and gaining muscle mass. He also showcased his charisma, humor, and action skills as the leader of a ragtag team of misfits who save the galaxy from a villainous plot.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a huge success, grossing over $770 million worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 2014. It also received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who praised its fun tone, colorful visuals, memorable characters, and awesome soundtrack. Pratt reprised his role as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and will return for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).

In 2015, Pratt starred as Owen Grady in Jurassic World, a reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise. He played a former Navy SEAL who works as a velociraptor trainer at a dinosaur theme park that goes haywire when a genetically engineered hybrid escapes its enclosure. Jurassic World was another smash hit for Pratt, earning over $1.6 billion worldwide and becoming the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release. It also received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences, who enjoyed its thrilling action sequences and nostalgic homage to the original film.

Pratt returned as Owen Grady in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), which followed him and his former love interest Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) as they try to rescue the surviving dinosaurs from an erupting volcano on Isla Nublar. The film was not as well-received as its predecessor but still made over $1.3 billion worldwide. Pratt will reprise his role once more in Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), which will feature the return of original cast members Sam Neill, Laura Dern
